If the rest of the Round of 32 is anything like yesterday, be ready for more sleepless nights around Altoona. Mr. McKinney achieved his goal, surviving to the Sweet Sixteen and facing AAHS Senior Will Sankey, the stoic winner of the Young Bucks region. Simply put, Mr. Elvey vs. Miss Buggey fed families. This must-see marquee matchup saw Buggey and her dance moves pull a shocking upset over the Nature Boy. She will face Mrs. Yingling in an all-phys ed throwdown with the Elite Eight on the line. Not all phys ed teachers advanced, as Mr. D’Angelo edged out Mr. Picciotti before it got physical. He will face Mr. Marasco in a much safer G-rated Sweet Sixteen matchup. And in a game that will surely tear the Games Club apart and divide loyalties, 6-seed Mr. Harber advances to face 7-seed Mr. Frailey, who ended Mr. Smith’s brilliant Cinderella run. How did we get so many amazing Sweet Sixteen matchups? It’s almost like the Selection Committee secretly knew what they were doing all along. Can we beat the nearly 1,150 votes cast yesterday? Don’t forget, starting tomorrow, you may buy additional votes for your favorite teacher or AAHS Senior at A, B, and C lunches, with each $1.00 = 2 votes, and all proceeds benefitting the Altoona Food Bank.
